So I wanted to get together some of my current obsessions to share with anyone who cares. February seemed to fly by, but all in all it was a great month to binge watch a show and do several face masks etc. Super productive. Monthly, I might add some categories or even take some away, depending on if there’s any good food in the universe during that time for example. If you guys have any opinies on these selections, please let me know! Or if you can bounce off of my taste and give me some additional tips for things to check out, I’d love to hear them!
TV SHOW: FARGO (2 SEASONS)
First and foremost, it’s not always the easiest thing to find a show that both Cory and I can fully immerse ourselves in. We have similar taste, but sometimes I just wana watch Oliva Pope do her girl boss man-slaying and he is not down for that. When we decided to watch Fargo, I wasn’t sure exactly how it would serve for both of us- but within the first episode we were hooked.
So although it is a similar spin, no doubt taking inspiration from the movie Fargo, it is completely original in it’s plot points itself. The show is filled with dark humor, crime plot points and quirky, quick-wit characters. The first season is set in Bemidji, Minnesota, where the accents are killer and the kindness is real- of course covering up a bunch of murder and secrets. Martin Freeman and Billybob Thorton star, with some amazing supporting actors I grew to love. Season two is set in Luverne (love how they kept the setting so true to how it still is today) 1979, and I geeked out about how the crimes and characters of that era are all tied to the preceding first season. They even throw in a little extra-terrestrial twist which was somewhat confusing (what the fuck?), but welcomed in my book. Kirsten Dunst, Patrick Wilson and Ted Danson are some leading names in this season.
PODCAST: BOSSGIRL CREATIVE
Bossgirl Creative Podcast has been on my speakers whenever I have time to listen. I am currently labeling myself as podcast’s biggest fan- I listen to a plethora of them weekly, and I don’t know how I was living in traffic before podcasts. If you have access to some headphones, your car’s speakers, anything- and you have a commute or downtime- LISTEN TO A PODCAST. This is just so much more impactful and informative than mindless music you’ve heard a million times. Don’t get me wrong, I love music and when I am cleaning or working out- you know I have my Trap Anthems playing. But I just feel like a lot of the podcasts I follow (and I have tons to suggest) are helping me to be a better me, without having to do much but listen.
That being said, this is one of my favorites within the genre of blogging for business, or blogging inspiration. Weekly topics cover a range of topics from traffic growing and time management strategies, the legal sides of blogging, developing your ideal reader.. everything you could need to know in one place. Taylor of Pink Heels Pink Truck explains the podcast as a place to
“Learn more about the whys, hows and whats of blogging, business and being a creative entrepreneur + listen to interviews with some amazing Boss Girl Creatives.”
Something I really like about this podcast is that Taylor invites her listeners to call in with questions, features them and their sites as part of her response, and really delves into the nitty gritty of each inquiry with genuine information and acknowledgement. She often has guest speakers, other boss girls and sometimes just her good blogger friends. There is also a growing community on the Boss Girl Creative Facebook group, which I just joined myself, where you can collaborate, join live chats, and sometimes Taylor even does blog critiques and feedback, which is super helpful. I love the info I’ve learned from this podcast, and it’s true nature coming from a place of educating and support.
MUSIC: BIG SEAN & MORE
No secret I love rap music. Here are some of my favorites to turn up in February.Big Sean- I Decided This whole album is a much more humble version of Big Sean, where he is showing some vulnerability and real emotion. I love Big Sean and his IDFWU attitude, but it was cool to see a bigger message behind his rhymes- which are still quick and dope, as always. My top picks: Owe Me and Sacrifices (ft. Migos) Don’t worry, he still has the same boss mentality throughout.
RaRa – Travis Scott ft. Lil Uzi Vert – Travis can do no wrong. And Lil Uzi on top of that makes everything even better.
Gassed Up- Nebu Kiniza – Literally just a fun song. It will make you wana dance anywhere. I’m excited to hear more from this artist.
My drink recommendation for all you tea drinkers out there: Mango Passionfruit Green Tea with Aloe Vera – 30% or Unsweetened. I don’t like milk, so fruit tea is my preference, and aloe has a lot of great benefits for your skin and antioxidant properties. It’s a yummy textural element to divert from the typical Boba selection. The passionfruit makes it sweet enough that you don’t even need any extra. Sharetea and Teazzert in Alameda both made mine perfect.
For the boozier side of things, check out UNDERWOOD ROSÉ, made by Union Wine Company (out of Oregon) which also comes in a picnic-friendly can version. I tasted the can- still delish. Perfect for music festivals and events, they make a Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sparkling White can as well. The rosé had notes of watermelon and peach, and fun fact: one can=half a bottle of wine. Pinkies out, bitches.
I ordered some of the new Colourpop pressed powder eyeshadow singles in February and I have to say I was super impressed. I got the colors Stay Golden, Wait For It, Piece of Cake, Running Late, Silver Lining, Bel Air and Milli. They are soft and quite pigmented, which makes them perfect for blending. The warmer colors have been my go-to’s for crease intensity. Would recommend 100% !! They have the convenient metal packaging to insert into empty palettes too, easy-peasy.
Do you guys have anything that you were totally obsessed with last month? Let me know!
