At long last; literally, it took my package 16 days to arrive- it’s here. The iluvsarahii x Colourpop collab we’ve all been waiting for. Karen Gonzalez is one of my favorite influencers. She’s funny, creative and massively talented as a makeup artist. As soon as I opened my package, I instantly dug in to start playing with the gorgeous colors. Colourpop is a now popular cosmetics brand, known for it’s affordable prices and amazing pigmentation. Late delivery and shitty customer service aside, I was stoked for this collab between the brand and the MUA.
I ordered the entire collection, which was a really reasonable cost of $60. The full collection includes 8 pressed shadows, 3 lippie pencils, an Ultra Glossy Lip, an Ultra Matte Lip and an Ultra Satin Lip. Considering a lot of times just one eye shadow palette can cost $50, or $20 per liquid lipstick, this is a good value for me. I have used every formulation of Colourpop lippies, and I love them all.
Iluvsarahii x Colourpop Swatches – Eyes
The first palette is Chic-y ($18) a neutral set of 3 mattes and one metallic shadow. Some of the names in the collection I really love and can identify as Karen-unique. Others aren’t as relevant, but I guess that isn’t the most important thing.
Upon first swatching, I used a synthetic-fiber flat brush, and it was a disappointment. The shadows went on light and sheer, not pigmented and intense like I expected. I quickly decided to use my finger to swatch instead, and this time received much better results.
Distressed: Is a matte, chalk-white/creamy beige. This is perfect for on your brow bone, or even as a lid base. Super pigmented and soft.
Vivacious: The site describes it as “a metallic pink champagne”. It has a fine to medium-fine glitter based with silver tones. This doubles great as a highlighter.
Freckles: This is my favorite color in the collection I think. It’s a matte, warm, sable, ideal for transition or crease color.
Noche: A deep, dark, chocolatey brown. Super dark, matte and pigmented, perfect for a smoky eye or outer corner color.
Next up is $aucey ($18), a set with two mattes, one duo chrome and one metallic. I created my “sunset” eye look from today with this palette and loved the results. Just like the other palette, these colors are best applied with your finger or a natural fiber brush.
Heavy Glam: Is a glitter duo-chrome with a sherbert orange and pink flip. To be honest, this didn’t strike me as an obvious duo-chrome, but did show up extremely pigmented on my eyelid.
Chic Happens: Is a matte, cool mauve. I like this one for crease color, it reminds me of Buon Fresco from ABH or Silver Lining by Colourpop.
Lit: Is a deep, vibrant, metallic plum color. I want to play with this one more, its gorgeous on the skin. Makes a great under-eye smoked color as well.
Razy: Matte, deep purple with blackish undertones. This is a dark, dark shade as well and takes a small amount to go a long way.
All in all, I think the palettes are a great value and a gorgeous color selection. I am a big fan of the pressed shadows from Colourpop as it is, and these sets are curated for perfect looks. You can tell Karen would use (and has) these shades, and I appreciate their photoshoot and her tutorials showing their capabilities.
Iluvsarahii X Colourpop Swatches – Lips
This collab came with three Lippie Pencils, which correspond with their lip colors. In all honesty, I am not the biggest fan of Colourpop lip liners. They’re extremely soft and smudge easily. This is good in using them as an all over lip color, but bad for when you’re trying to achieve a precise line around the mouth. But all that aside, the pigmentation is impressive as always.
I am obsessed with Colourpop glosses, they are long lasting and a perfect, not too sticky formula. The satins are also a very wearable mix, with a soft, natural looking finish and a comfortable wear. The first things I ever bought from Colourpop were the Matte liquid lipsticks, and I’ve always loved them. There is a variance in wear and formula amongst colors though, so that’s something to keep in mind.
Curvii is a creme finish gloss with a peachy neutral finish. I really liked the look of this over the liner.
Mamacita is a deep blackened burgundy, and finishes much darker on the lips than it appears in the bottle. It goes on smooth and wet, but I could see it being slightly patchy on some. The finish was matte, and it did bleed around the corners of my mouth. It also did not last through a beer and garlic shrimp noodles, FYI; butthole mouth city.
So there you have it! The Iluvsarahii x Colourpop swatches & review – my first impressions. I love the collection as a whole, there are definitely more wins than opportunities. The chic pale pinkish white packaging, the gold animal print overlay, and even the font is a dope representation of Karen. You can really see the creative direction behind the collection as a cohesive set, and I can’t wait to do more looks. What are you going to pick up?
